Under the auspices of the International institute of education, culture and diaspora relations, Biennale “The Ukrainian language in the world: retreat or progress?” which was attended by teachers of LTFC Department Nataliia Pylypenko-Fritsak and Nataliia Vorona. During the event, issues of the quality of textbooks on the Ukrainian as a foreign language were considered, as well as the role of these textbooks as a means of promoting Ukraine in the world were discussed.

 November 6, 2020 “The third international online conference dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian writing and language was held in the framework of Biennale “The Ukrainian language in the world: retreat or progress? Within the framework of the event, new educational publications on the Ukrainian as a foreign language of the International institute of education, culture and diaspora relations (IECDR) of Lviv Polytechnic University were presented. The conference ended with an expert discussion on the textbook on the Ukrainian language as a means of popularizing Ukraine, Ukrainian culture in the world, what it should be like, how to successfully combine the best traditions with modern trends, and so on. This conference, as two previous online conferences within the framework of this Biennale, was attended by teachers of Department of language training for foreign citizens of SSU Vorona N. O. and Pylypenko-Fritsak N. A.

The first online conference from this series of IECDR events “The Ukrainian language in the world: impulses from Ukraine" was held on June 25, 2020 and was dedicated to the memory of the famous Ukrainian sociologist Iryna Bekeshkina. This event, dedicated to the functioning and significance of the Ukrainian language in the world, aroused great interest. The event was joined by guests from 37 countries. The participants discussed the following important questions: "What factors influence the spread of the Ukrainian language abroad?"; "Promotion of the Ukrainian language abroad today: state policy or volunteering?”; "What can we do to make the language unite, not divide?", etc.

  • The participants of the online conference stated:
  • the Ukrainian language abroad is an important factor in creativity positive image of Ukraine outside its borders;
  • the spread of the Ukrainian language in the world as a factor of “soft power” has to be a strategic direction of Ukraine's foreign policy;
  • state of distribution of the Ukrainian language in the international community directly depends on the implementation of the language policy in Ukraine;
  • there is a slow but steady trend towards role growth of the Ukrainian language in Ukraine, and therefore the establishment of the value of an independent state in society;
  • the impulses and signals about the language situation in Ukraine that the world receives from our state are of particular importance for the spread of the Ukrainian language in the international community.

 

On September 10, 2020, IECDR and the Ilk Kucheriv “Democratic Initiatives” Foundation held a presentation-discussion "The Ukrainian language: the path in an independent Ukraine". During the event, the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Ilk Kucheriv “Democratic Initiatives” Foundation, held in August 2020 were presented, and the following issues were discussed: Interrelation: Ukrainian language – socio-political preferences of Ukrainians. Ukrainian in the formation of a political nation of the XXI century. Ukrainian in political discourse: manipulation and opposition. Russian humanitarian expansion. Politics of Ukraine. Actions of civil society. Prestige of Ukrainian for young people. Road map of the state.

Scientific reports of all participants of the Biennale are reflected in the collection of the conference materials "The Ukrainian language in the world", which is intended for a wide range of scientists, students, postgraduates and teachers.
