Students of the Preparatory Department (together with the Lecturer of group ПВа-11 Hanna V. Diadchenko and Lecturer of group ПВу-13 Inna S. Levenok) as well as members of the club "PF.Lang.Laboratory" (Head - Inna S. Levenok) joined the celebration of the Day of Mother Tongue.

International Day of Mother Tongue has been celebrated since 2000 on the February 21st. "Support of lingual and cultural diversity and polylingualism" was announced at the ХХХ session of the general conference UNESCO that was held in October-November 1999 in Paris. UNESCO tends to the language support as sign of the cultural belonging of a human being. Studying of the foreign languages and polylingualism are keys to mutual understanding, tolerance, international friendship and empathy.

Students prepared the presentation about the interesting of different languages, read the verses, took part in the intellectual game "Guess the language", reminded the proverbs and sayings about the language and made the poster. Foreign students studying at the Preparatory Department share their impressions from the holiday.

Monitor of the group ПВу-13 Al Bahlouz Al Vashak (Jordan) notices: “My native language is Arabic but I also know English well. At the Preparatory Department I study the Ukrainian language. It’s a very beautiful language. This holiday gave the opportunity to compare my native Arabic language with the Ukrainian. For example, it was interesting for me to tell my friends about the difference between the Arabian language and the Ukrainian one: there aren’t vowels in my native language, there isn’t letter "П" (smiling), but many mathematic words came to the Ukrainian language from the Arabian one”.

Mohammed Mussa who came from the Comoro Islands speaks Ukrainian quite well although his native languages are Comorian and French. He wants to study English very much. His new friends from the Preparatory Department help him all the time. Mohammed is convinced that international friendship is important and knowledge of the foreign languages help to reveal the new possibilities in studying.

Students of the Preparatory Department which arrived from Tanzania (Nsato Karen, Mvaniika Sheron, Kabanivani Umar and Akiu Kiroiia) gladly presented their native language Swahili.

Alych Zumrut from Turkey got all the attendees acquainted to the Turkish language and said the longest Turkish word consisting of 70 letters. Zumrut says that she wants to speak Ukrainian quickly and correctly very much.

All the attendees had the great pleasure of the communication and perception of English, French, Arabic, Turkish, Turkmen, Comorian, Swahili and Lingala
languages.
