On February 21st within the celebration of the International Day of the Native Language the Senior Lecturer of the Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens Hanna V. Diadchenko and Assistant Professor of the Department Liudmyla A. Kulishenko took part in the Scientific Seminar «Ukrainian Language in the Media Landscape: State, Challenges, Topical Tasks», organized by the Institute of the Ukrainian Language, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

At the seminar the issues related to the functioning of the normative and non-normative elements in the spoken and written texts of the modern mass media as well as to the excessive Anglicization of language of the communication media as contemporary lingual challenge were discussed. The danger of the gradual substitution of the Ukrainian language by the foreign languages from the media and scientific space was noticed. For their part, the lecturers prepared the reports on the topics «Lexemes of English origin in the Ukrainian advertisement copies» (Hanna V. Diadchenko) and «Peculiarities of the lexemes of English origin usage in the language of the Ukrainian communication media» (Liudmyla A. Kulishenko).

The scientists supported the idea about the especial scientometrical value of the works written in Ukrainian as well as about the necessity of the equating of the Ukrainian studies published in the Ukrainian specialized publications to the publications indexed in the databases «Scopus» and «Web of Science». They also supported the idea about the implementation of the loyalty system and aiding to the scientific activity of the Ukrainian philologists within the framework of the state specialized publications.

Lecturers also reminded about the so-called «feminine madness» in the media space. They convinced in the unreliability of the change of nouns meaning the professions in feminine as far as it doesn’t correspond the norms of the Ukrainian literary language. Among the other menaces to the Ukrainian humanitarian science existence the influence of the grant projects, scientific impact reduces inside the literary and language studies conducted through the focus of the gender studies finances by the foreign influence agents were named as well.

Head of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Philological Science, Professor Pavlo Y. Hrutsenko summarized that considered, motivated, systematic assertive is equal to lead to the result we want to achieve. He thanked to the participants of the seminar for their professional and comprehensive reports about the status and state of the contemporary Ukrainian literary language in media space, about the role of the literary norm as well as the observations at the dynamics of the lingual norm. The deeds of the linguists and functionaries aimed at the optimization of the lingual situation were defined.
