The Faculty of Philology of the University in Bialystok (Poland) invited Maryna M. Nabok, Candidate of Philological Sciences, to take part in the International Conference “Muslim East in Eastern and Southern Slavic Literature” (November 17-18, 2018).

In October 2017, students of the Preparatory Department of the Department of International Education improved their knowledge of the Russian language.

The Linguistic Center for the Slavic languages of the SSU began work on the basis of the Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens.

On June 2-3, lecturer of the Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens Maryna M. Nabok, Candidate of Philology, and medical student Mohammad Abu Hamed (group LS-310, Jordan) attended International Conference “Traditional Musical Instruments of Kobza Players and Lyrists” that took place in Kyiv on June 2-3.

On May 17, an event dedicated to the celebration of the Days of Science was held in Sumy State University, and students of the Preparatory Department took part in it.

The Department’s lecturers encourage foreign students to get acquainted with Ukrainian traditions.

After the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference "Actual Problems of Teaching Foreign Students at the Present Stage" and as a part of the 25th anniversary of the Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens, our lecturers organized a trip for the guests from the Taras ShevchenkoNational UniversityofKyiv to one of the most interesting cities of the Sumy region – Trostianets.

The Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens has intensified a research work with foreign students. In particular, Maryna M. Nabok, Candidate of Philological sciences, together with medical students have been studying Ukrainian folklore and doing a comparative analysis of it to the folklores of other peoples of the world. The topicality and novelty of this work consist in finding the national peculiarities of understanding the folkloric heroes of Ukraine, as well as countries of Africa, the Middle East, Brazil.

Foreign students took an active part in the All-Ukrainian competition of student scientific works in the field "Slavic languages and literature (including Russian language and literature)". All the works submitted for the first round of the competition were the results of serious research activity of students.

On March 28-30, 2017, the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference "Actual Problems of Teaching Foreign Students at the Present Stage" was held in Sumy State University. This time, the conference was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of International Education and the Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens.

Teachers of the Department of Language Training forForeign Citizens (Olga M. Volkova, Yevheniia O. Holovanenko, Tetiana O.Dehtiarova, Yulia O. Klipatska, Alina V. Shevtsova) have completed the work on the manual on the scientific style of speech for foreign students of the Preparatory Department.

On March 9, 2017, students of the Preparatory Department of SSU took part in the celebration of the event, dedicated to the birthday of Taras Shevchenko.
